Cricket Violin Hardshell Tube Case
cricket, violin, fiddle, bag, case, TKL, USA

This modified Alvin document tube adapted fits Cricket perfectly. We do recommend the soft TKL case for convenience since the chin/shoulder rest must be removed before storing in the tube and the fit can be a bit tight with very little room for a bow. The soft case with bridge protector should be sufficient for most travel, however if you have to have the rigidity of a hard case for extreme conditions, this may be the choice. Double wall molded hard plastic tube with shoulder strap. 5" outside diameter by 31" long fits full size bow and chin/shoulder rest removed from Cricket. Includes a strap on bridge protector. Weighs just 2lbs 1oz.

4 of 5 UPDATE: A modification that might be useful October 19, 2016

After my last review, I decided to take it upon myself to modify the tube case to make it a little better. I went to the hardware store and got some rubber adhesive/sealant. I pulled the inside tube out of the outer tube and cut it off just below the point where the two lock together. Then I applied liberal amounts of adhesive and seated the two parts back together.

This has a few effects: in the drawbacks column, it does make the tube a little less rigid and crush resistant, but not by much.

In the benefits column, the tube went from 2.1lbs to 1.3lbs.

It's also more water resistant; if the tube is upright in a wet environment no water can leak in between the two walls of the tube like it could before.

Finally, with the inside tube in tact, it was a VERY snug fit. It took finesse to get the fiddle in and out, and there was virtually no room for a bow. With the inside tube cut down, those issues disappear.

It's still not perfect, but it's better.

4 of 5 Not great, but better than anything else. October 12, 2016

This is a simple tube designed for transporting blueprints or other rolled-up documents. It's not super light, super durable or super water resistant, but barring a custom manufactured piece of equipment I think it's the best option. 4" PVC pipe is to small and 6" is way too big. All in all, I'd recommend it.
